Obituary of Stillie "Bill" Andrews
Stillie Andrews, affectionately known as “Bill”, passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at Marion General Hospital. He was 72 years old.
Stillie was born in Sikeston, Missouri, on February 17, 1947, to Mr. and Mrs. Obie Andrews, Sr., and Hattie B. (Patterson) Andrews. He confessed his belief in Christ at a very early age. He went to school until the 7th grade and began work also at an early age. He and his brother, RD, moved to Marion in September of 1968 to be with brothers, Willie, Roy, and Obie Andrews, Jr., and to seek employment. He met and was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Lula V. Shaw, in July of 1969. This union was blessed with three children. In April of 1999, after nearly 30 years of service, Stillie retired from Active Products Foundry.
Stillie will be remembered for his kind and gentle spirit! He was a wonderful husband, as well as a supportive, loving, and amazing father and grandfather. He was always spending time in the kitchen and on the barbeque grill, never wanting to share the recipe for what he called his “Special Sauce”. He never wanted to miss any of the grandchildren’s extracurricular activities such as graduations, sporting events, or CJ’s Beautillion event. You could always count on him smiling and dancing at weddings or family reunions, and he was certainly the designated driver when Lula often wanted to travel to East St. Louis, Tennessee, or the casino!
He leaves to cherish in his memory his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Lula V. Andrews, Marion; one son, James E. (Heidi) Shaw, Marion; two daughters, Belinda F. (Gary) Andrews, Marion, and Ida (Lois) Williams, Carmel; three brothers: Roger (Alberta) Andrews, Marion; RD (Evelyn) Andrews, Marion; and Percy (Patricia) Andrews, Muncie; three sisters-in-law, Bernice, Barbara, and Bonnie Andrews; one aunt, Stella Patterson, East St. Louis, MO; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends; and his three dearest friends, Steve Roy, Eric Matthews, and Frank Carradine, who was often referred to as “Hoss”!
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jerlean Andrews, Susie Granger, and Flora Granger; five brothers, Lemuel Andrews, Obie Andrews Jr., Willie Andrews, Feggin Andrews Sr., and John Andrews; and one grandson, Jaymes G. Shaw.
The family will receive visitors from 10 a.m. to 12 noon with Stillie’s funeral service beginning at 12 noon on Monday, May 20, 2019, at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, 1204 W. 14th St., Marion, IN. Rev. C.L. Adams will be officiating with burial following at Grant Memorial Park.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
