Obituary of Jimmy Lee Poe

Jimmy Lee Poe, 71, from Marion, passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2019, in his home.  A lifelong resident of Marion, Jimmy was born on January 7, 1948, to Alga and Betty (Whelchel) Poe.  He married his loving wife, Ginger Jones, in 1999, and she survives.

Jimmy retired from the Waste Treatment Plant for the City of Marion, where he worked for 22 years, and was actively involved with the Grant County Emergency Management.  He was one of those guys who took great pleasure from spotting storms and chasing tornadoes.  He had a very giving heart and loved helping others.  He especially enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Ginger; sons: Jason (Joyce) Poe, Gratis, OH; Chris (Amanda) Poe, Marion; and Mark McQueen, Marion; step-son, Darren (Christalyn) Jones, Montpelier; step-daughter, Stacy (Kenny) Harrison, Archer, FL; grandchildren, Tyler Poe, Treyton Poe, Kaylee Poe, Austin Harrison, Kyle Harrison, Cheyenne Harrison, Aubree Jones, and Amanda Wilson; step-granddaughter, Summer Justice; and sister, Sherrilyn Poe, Marion.

His parents and his brother, Danny Poe, preceded him in death.

The family will receive visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at Grant Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 1606 W. 26th St., Marion, IN.

Immediately following the time of visitation, a funeral service to celebrate Jimmy’s life will begin at 2 p.m. with Pastor David Ring officiating.  Burial will take place at Grant Memorial Park.
